Annual Physical examinations

At DRAH we encourage routine annual physical examinations for all pets, as a part of a preventative and well-care program.  We see a variety of species including dogs, cats, birds, guinea pigs, rabbits, snakes, iguanas and turtles.  Large animal species (horses, goats, sheep, cows, llamas, alpacas, etc.) are also seen by our affiliate, Coastal Valley Veterinary Services.  It is recommended to have a yearly physical exam performed for your pet, and for those senior pets (dogs and cats over 8 years of age) a twice yearly exam is often important for detecting health problems as early as possible.

After checking in with our friendly receptionist, Christopher, a veterinary nurse will escort you to one of our two state-of-the-art examination rooms, and will discuss with you any concerns or health issues with your pet, taking an accurate and detailed health history.  Dr. Chris will then perform a physical examination on your pet and answer any questions or concerns you may have, as well as discussing with you her findings on the physical examination and any recommendations she may have specific to your pet.

As part of our well care program we recommend a yearly fecal check for all dogs and indoor/outdoor cats, to determine if they have become infected with intestinal parasites over the past year.  This is especially important if there are any young children in the home, as children can also become infected with these parasites if the pet is not properly treated.

At this time, the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) recommends yearly heartworm testing (for dogs) as well as appropriate vaccinations for the age and species of pet.  We do offer vaccine titers in place of routine vaccinations for those clients who prefer this form of vaccine monitoring for their pet.  Our vaccine recommendations are tailored to the needs of your pet.  We are not, and never will be, a "one size fits all" facility.  We also offer tick-borne disease testing, microchipping, nutritional counseling, and full laboratory services when appropriate.

Routine care for our avian friends includes nail and beak trims and feather clipping when desired.  Nail and beak trims are performed with a high speed dremel, for quick and accurate trimming technique.  Feathers are clipped as necessary for flight restriction concerns.

Exotic and "pocket" pet species including guinea pigs, rabbits, snakes, iguanas, geckos, turtles and other reptiles and amphibians are seen on a yearly or as-needed basis.  While there are no routine vaccinations for these pets, physical examinations are often an important tool in detecting disease early and designing a preventive care program.

For those clients who are unable to bring their pet to our hospital, DRAH also offers mobile office visits with our affiliate, Coastal Valley Veterinary Services.  Dr. Jennifer Hall is an exemplary veterinarian who specializes in at-home and at-barn care for your pets and farm animals.  Dr. Hall has the capability to treat almost any species for routine health care, long term medical management, etc.
